Expressing serious concern over the growing trend of communalism in the country, Jamaat-e- Islami Hind today demanded that the communal violence bill be passed at the earliest in Parliament to check such "unpleasant incidents".
Alleging that the recent violence in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district was the result of a "well-chalked out plan", they insisted that the state government award stringent punishments to the guilty after conducting a high-level probe.
It also called for immediate steps for the rehabilitation of those affected in the violence.
"The violence caused huge damage to human lives and to the economy and dignity of people. Several social groups and independent fact-finding teams are saying that the riots were organised and planned.
"This riot has not just exposed the lethargic attitude of the government but also put a question mark on the role of police and the administration and their partisan role," alleged Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umri, the president of the body.
The organisation demanded full implementation of the advisory by Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde to chief ministers of the states against arrest of innocent Muslim youths.
"This will help hundreds of innocent Muslim youths, who were arrested in the last 15-20 years in false terror cases, get justice," Umari said.
