Jurists and legal luminaries today hailed Justice V R Krishna Iyer, who turned 100 on November 1, and called for the judiciary to adopt his methodology and remodel itself to meet the needs of present times.
While speaking at a function to celebrate the 100th Birthday of Justice Iyer, Supreme Court Justice A K Sikri said the need of the hour is to delve into his methodology which Justice Iyer adopted as a judge and remodel the same to suit the present times.
He said that people were turning to judiciary more increasingly with a hope that it can solve the pressing social problems.

"Therefore, according to me, the need of the hour is that we need a modern K Iyer with great experience and skills of communication...To explain that the element of creativity properly harnessed and well directed is the need of the hour which will not be critised by labelling it as judicial activism," Justice Sikri said at the function organised by Justice Krishna Iyer Free Legal Aid Cell and Capital Foundation Society.
He further said that in the present era of globalisation, democracies of the world including India face the threat of terrorism while civil disobidence which in turn is throwing different challenges which landed up in the court by giving it a shape of legal disputes.
"Good governance is the buzzword and there hue and cry against rising corruption and detoriating law and order situtation. All these and other developments have brought normative changes in the legislative as well as judicial thinking," he said, adding that he (Iyer) can be regarded as the most accomplished judge, jurist and sociologist that independent India has produced.
