LAHDC organises 3rd Ladakh Marathon at Leh

Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) today organised third Ladakh Marathon at Leh in Jammu and Kashmir.

The 3rd Ladakh Marathon was organised by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council at Leh. A total of approximate 3,000 participants from across the world took part in the Marathon, defence spokesman said here.

The aim of the Marathon was to foster National Spirit and encourage Sports in Ladakh, he said.

The 3rd Ladakh Marathon had four categories namely the Khardung La Challenge Ultra Marathon of 72 Kms, the Full Marathon of 42 Kms, the Half Marathon of 21 Kms and the 7 Kms run in which maximum school children participated, he said adding the Ladakh Marathon is the World's Highest and Toughest Marathon held at 3,524 meter (11,562 feet) altitude.
 

The team of Army Ladakh Scouts participated in the event with great zeal and enthusiasm, he said adding the soldiers of Ladakh Scouts performed exceptionally well.

Rifleman Shabbir Hussain, Rifleman Rigzin Nurboo and Rifleman Tsering Gyatso stood first, second and third in the Khardung La Challenge Ultra Marathon of 72 Kms respectively, the spokesman said.

Recruit Shokat Ali and Recruit Fayaz Ali secured first and third positions respectively in the Full Marathon of 42 Kms, he said.

Thubstan Tsewang, Member of Parliament Ladakh, Rigzin Spalbar, Chief Executive Councillor Leh and Simrandeep Singh, District Commissioner Leh graced the event with their presence, he said.

The Indian Army provided full administrative support to the organisers towards smooth conduct of the Marathon, he said.
