Maharashtra government has decided to undertake a dryland farming programme for the farmers who are dependent on monsoons and do not have any other irrigation source.
The government plans to spend Rs 20,000 crore on the programme in five years. The project headquarter will be at Aurangabad.
About 55 per cent of population in the state is dependent on agriculture for livelihood. Out of the 225 lakh hectares cultivable land in the state, 80 per cent is a dryland.
