Man charred to death in car accident

A 41-year-old man was charred to death after his car rammed into another and caught fire in Jahangirpuri area of north Delhi, police said today.

The deceased identified as Sanjay Goel was on his way home in Rohini at around 9.30 pm on Saturday, when his car rammed into an another vehicle in front in Bhalswa Dairy area of outer Delhi, and lost its front right wheel before turning turtle.

"The central lock of the car got jammed due to which the victim could not escape. The people on road alerted the police and tried to rescue Goel by breaking window glasses but the car caught fire which spread rapidly and engulfed the entire car," a senior Delhi police official said.
 

The fire department was informed, but by the time fire tenders arrived, it was all over, the official said.

"The Alto which the Swift hit also lost a wheel, but there was no serious damage to the car and the occupants were safe," the official said.

A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered in this case. The cause of the fire is being investigated, the official said.
