A 36-year-old man from Kerala, who was allegedly suffering from AIDS, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his residence in Mayur Vihar in east Delhi.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Pillai, who worked for an online media firm in Noida, police said today.

The incident came to light when his neighbours complained of foul smell emanating from his house at Pocket-4 of Mayur Vihar Phase 3 and informed police around 10 pm.

A police team reached the spot and found the highly decomposed body in the bathroom, a police offcer said.

Pillai's neighbours told police that he had moved in the locality two months ago. There was little interaction between him and people as he was rumoured to be suffering from HIV/AIDS.

Through a cycle-rickshaw puller Kamlesh, who used to bring him food, police traced Pillai's previous landlord who told police that he was an AIDS patient although no documents about his medical history was found from the house, the officer said.

The body has been shifted to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital and police is waiting for his mother to arrive after which post mortem will be done to reveal the exact cause of the death, he said, adding, further investigation is on.
