A new smartphone-controlled device that can lift heavy items - weighing up to 23 kg - with just the push of a button has been developed in the US.

The myLifter device is controlled via an app on your smartphone and can lift heavy objects despite its small size.

Each myLifter unit is slightly larger than an adult fist and weighs around 1 kg, making it easy for one person to handle and install.

The device, developed by a team of researchers in Provo, Utah, is ideal for lifting and storing objects like bicycles, kayaks, and cargo boxes, according to the product description on Kickstarter website.

Additionally, users can install multiple myLifters together to raise larger items like a storage platform or Jeep hardtop. They can be synchronised within the app and controlled with a single button press.

Those who do not have compatible smartphones and tablets to support the app can use a remote control instead.

This remote will let users pair with dozens of myLifters, name them, and control them.

Each device has a feature built in called "smartLIFT." It allows you to programme a preset high and low point for each item to lift and lower to.

Once you set your high and low points, pressing the smart lift and smart lower buttons will automatically send your item to the preset places.
