The National Green Tribunal today expressed its displeasure over incidents of waste burning in the capital and slammed municipal corporations for their failure to implement its order which banned burning of such material.

"Various incidents in relation to burning of waste and plastic have been reported. All municipal corporations and police authorities shall ensure that there is no burning of waste including plastic," a bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar said.

The green panel also issued notice to offenders who were found burning and dumping building material on road and asked them to show cause why environment compensation be not imposed on them for violating the orders of NGT.

It asked all the municipal corporations to maintain a separate fund which would be utilised for improvement, restoration and restitution of the environmental degradation resulting from such activity.

On April 28 last year, the tribunal had imposed a complete ban on burning of waste in open including garbage, leaves, plastic and crop residues in Delhi-NCR and said violators would be fined Rs 5,000.
