A woman legislator of the PML-N has allegedly slapped a hostess of a luxury bus service in Pakistan's Punjab province for not providing her water immediately, prompting Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to order a police probe into the incident.

The incident occurred yesterday when legislator Nighat Sheikh of the PML-N, the ruling party in Punjab, was travelling with her family from the tourist resort of Murree to Lahore on a luxury bus.

Sheikh reportedly quarrelled with hostess Iqra Nawaz when she took time in providing her water. She allegedly beat Nawaz and later got a case registered against her for making "threats against her".

Asif Khokhar, another passenger on the bus, told reporters that the legislator became furious when the hostess did not respond immediately to her call for water.

Sheikh slapped Nawaz and called police, who arrested the hostess after registering a case, he said.

Chief Minister Sharif, a senior leader of the PML-N and brother of newly appointed Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, took notice of the incident and directed the Punjab Police chief to hold an inquiry into the matter.

Sharif also directed police to free the hostess.
