Pakistani security forces today claimed to have foiled a terror threat by seizing a massive quantity of explosives, suicide vests and detonators from two illegal bomb factories in the restive Balochistan province.

Seven suicide jackets, five kilograms of ball bearings, 17,500 explosive sticks and 23 rockets were seized during an operation in Chaman, Frontier Corps Inspector General Maj Gen Ijaz Shahid and Southern Command chief Lt Gen Nasser Khan Janjua told a news conference.

They said over 8000 detonators, 150 Improvised Explosive Device switches, 1,364 electric circuits, 1,650 anti-tank mines, 526 kg of potassium chloride and other weapons were seized.

Janjua said this was a major accomplishment of the Frontier Corps, which had foiled a terror threat and saved innocent lives.

Modern laboratories were found in both factories where experiments were being conducted with explosives and chemicals, the officials alleged.
