Prof Gautam Biswas today took over charge as the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati from his two-term predecessor Prof Gautam Barua.
Prior to his present appointment, Biswas was the Director of CSIR-CMERI (Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute), an IIT-Guwajati press release said.
A Professor of Mechanical Engineering at IIT-Kanpur, he was the occupant of GD and VM Mehta Endowed Chair of Mechanical Engineering there.

Well known for his deep involvement in research, the release said, Prof Biswas has worked in the areas of computational fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
He has also been involved in numerical modelling of convective transport and conjugate problems in complex geometries.
The new Director has also developed techniques for handling free surface flows, bubble formation in film boiling, dynamics of falling drops and turbulent transport, it said.
He is the Fellow of various prestigious and scholastic academies of national and international repute.
Founder Director of Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), Prof Biswas is the author of more than 150 technical publications and guided 15 PhD theses, the release added.
