Home Minister Rajnath Singh today lauded the contribution of noted Hindi litterateur Namvar Singh and described him as "a beacon of the art".

Felicitating the renowned writer and thinker, who turned 90 today, the Home Minister said Singh busts the myth of popularity by achieving the kind of fame usually reserved for celebrities, sports stars or politicians.

The Home Minister said this at the 'First Cultural Dialogue Series', organised by Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) under the Ministry of Culture here.

Addressing the event, Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma said that Singh has immensely contributed in enriching Indian culture.

He appreciated the efforts of IGNCA for organising such an event.

The special issue of 'Bahuvachan', a journal of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Vishvvidyalaya, and a book, entitled 'Namvar Singh - Safar 90 Sal Ka', brought out by IGNCA, were released in the programme.
