The ruling Congress today announced the name of Ronald Sapa Tlau as its nominee to contest the election to the lone Mizoram Rajya Sabha seat to be held on June 19.
Tlau, who is chairman of the public sector Zoram Electronics Development Corporation Limited (ZENICS) since 2009 and had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly polls from Hrangturzo seat in 2008, would file his nominations tomorrow, the last day of filing nominations.
Meanwhile, the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) decided to field its candidate to contest the Rajya Sabha polls and the name of the party candidate would be announced tomorrow after consulting alliance partners of the United Democratic Front (UDF).
The Congress has 34 legislators in the 40-member state Assembly while the opposition MNF has five seats and its junior partner, the Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) has one legislator.
