A Sikh rights group has opposed the Congress party's motion seeking dismissal of a pending human rights violation lawsuit in connection with 1984 anti-Sikh riots, saying the court here has jurisdiction to rule over the case.

The memorandum of law submitted by Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) demonstrates subject-matter jurisdiction and the legal standing of the rights group as well as of the victims of 1984 in support of continuing the rights violation case against the Congress party in the US federal court.

SFJ legal advisor Gurpatwant Pannun said the group will submit in court as evidence excerpts of a television interview in which Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had said that some Congressmen were "probably involved" in the anti-Sikh riots.
