Directors of the original "The Lego Movie", Phil Lord and Christopher Miller had written a script for the film, but BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg has been hired to rewrite it for his first movie project.

Lord and Miller will still squeeze in production for the film around their work on the "Star Wars" Han Solo spinoff movie, but Rob Schrab is directing this time around.

Dan Lin and Roy Lee are also producing, reported Digital Spy.

Last month it was announced that the film would be delayed by a whopping nine months, moving from May 8, 2018 to February 8, 2019.

Will Arnett will reprise his role as Batman from the original film in "The Lego Batman Movie", which is due for release on February 10, 2017.

A Ninja-themed spin-off called Ninjago will follow on September 22, 2017.

The Lego Movie was a surprise hit at the box office, taking over USD 468 million worldwide.
