In a tragic incident, three teenagers drowned in a river today while taking bath to beat the summer heat in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

Bodies of the three boys, aged between 14 and 16 years, were fished out from the river by rescuers, a police official said.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Altaf (14) of Gagriya, Imran and Musrat Khaleel, both 16 and hailing from ward number two, the official said.

He said the boys were taking bath in the river adjacent to a school and accidentally entered the deep waters.

The city yesterday recorded the season's highest maximum temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius as heat wave intensified in the region. The minimum temperature was at 28.9 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature recorded a drop of 3.5 degrees Celsius to settle at 25.4 degrees celsius today, which is just 0.5 notches above normal during this part of the season.

But the drop in the night temperature failed to provide any relief to the denizens as the blazing sun continued to stifle the city.
