A Class-I officer of the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC), who allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 1 lakh was arrested by the Thane unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) tonight, ACB sources said.
Superintendent of Police (ACB Thane) Datta Karale told PTI that the arrested officer had originally made a demand of Rs 2 lakh for going soft on local body tax collection from an assessee, who complained to the ACB.
According to the Additional Superintendent of Police (ACB Thane) Srinivas Ghatge, the accused Deepak Pandurang Chimankare (42) is a UMC sectional engineer with additional charge as assistant commissioner.

The aggrieved complainant lodged a complaint with the Thane unit of the ACB which arrested the officer while he was accepting the money.
The accused has been charged under Section 7, Section 13(1)(d), Section 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The case is being probed further by the Thane unit of the ACB, the officer said.
