In a bid to increase tourist footfall in the state, Uttar Pradesh government will organise 'Uttar Pradesh Travel Mart' from February 22 to 24 here, officials said today.

"It's a unique exercise which is being held in the state for the first time. Though it had already been organised by other states, but with a different name," Director General Tourism Amrit Abhijat told reporters here.

The travel mart will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, he said.

The official said that the move is aimed at providing better experience to the visitors and to bring buyers and sellers close.

"Around 80 people from 27 countries will be participating in the event. We have also included the countries from where the tourists come to UP among others," Abhijat said.

The travel mart was being organised annually by the name of 'Great Indian Travel Bazar' in Jaipur but with the UP government and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) entering into an understanding, it was decided to organise it in Lucknow.

Abhijat said that the state aims to present its historical monuments and various rich tourism sites on a global platform through the initiative so that both domestic and foreign tourists become well-versed with Uttar Pradesh's unlimited tourism potential.

The exhibition of the travel mart and its closing ceremony would be held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, he informed.
