Press Trust of India Thrissur
: Claimed to the only such facility in the world, Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda Museum will throw open its doors to the public on December 27 at nearby Thaikkattussey.

Ashtavaidyan E T Parameswaran Mooss told newsmen here today that the idea emerged during the 100th birth anniversary celebrations of his grand-father and Vidyaratnam founder E T Neelakantan Mooss in 2005-2006. He is still active and quite healthy.

To a query on the investment on this venture, Mooss said it was very difficult to assess the cost as there are many millenia old texts on Ayurveda and hence they are 'priceless'.

He said the cost so far was estimated at over Rs 20 million, besides expenses to be incurred to maintain it with sufficient number of personnel, he added.

The museum would consist of an audio-visual theatre, depicting the origin, growth and development of Ayurveda phase by phase, with a facility to accommodate 40 persons at a time.

It would manifest facts and myths associated with the history and evolution of Ayurveda system, treatment, medicine manufacture and education modalities observed during the yesteryears of Ayurveda, along with the contemporary period illustrated in details through a 3D Gallery, Mooss said.

It would also have a collection of over 300 plants, depicting their medicinal property, being used for manufacture of Ayurvedic medicine along with the library of ancient literature on Ayurveda, Mooss added.
