Vanchi, Kumaran anniversaries to be govt functions

Birth anniversaries of freedom fighters Veera Vanchinathan and Tirupur Kumaran would be celebrated as Tamil Nadu government functions, Information Minister, K T Rajenthrabhalalji announced today in the State Assembly.

He said July 17 and October 4, the birth anniversaries of Veera Vanchinathan and Tirupur Kumaran respectively, would be celebrated as government functions.

Birth anniversaries of freedom fighters including Gandhi, Nehru, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bharathiyar, Dheeran Chinnamalai and V O Chidambaranar are already being observed as State functions.

The Minister said construction work for a 'manimandapam' for freedom fighter Ondi Veerann at Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli District has been completed and work is in progress for putting up a statue.
 

The renovation work of Mahakavi Bharathiyar Ninaivu Illam here is in progress at a cost of Rs.25 lakhs.

Also, work for manimandapam for Hyder Ali and Tippu Sultan in Dindigul District has been initiated by Public Works Department, he said.
