About 150 teachers of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology here staged a token dharna on the second day today protesting against the implementation of biometric attendance system.

Guru Jambheshwar University Teachers Association (GJUTA) termed the state government decision to implement biometric attendance for teachers of universities as "anti-academic and anti-teacher" and said it will not be allowed to be implemented under any circumstances.

Marking attendance of teachers for improving efficiency is uncalled for and ill-placed, a GJUTA leader said.

GJUTA President Dr Anil Kumar Bhankhar said it has been over one-and-a-half-years since university is functioning without a regular vice chancellor and registrar.

"This is a proof in itself how aware and concerned the government is about higher education in Haryana," he said.

University Grants Commission (UGC) had approved a performa 'Academic Performance Index' (API) to be implemented in all universities of Haryana, wherein the output of teachers is documented and evaluated for various purposes, including accountability and promotion, he said.
