Villagers attacked police after bodies of two men, who had gone missing, were found in a pond in Rajgarh area of the district today.

A policeman was injured in the attack.

Additional superintendent of police Dr R S Narvariya said bodies of two persons were recovered from Mahavir pond near Dhulet-Mohankheda under Rajgarh police post.

"They were identified as Magan Bhuria, 40, resident of Semaliya, and Nan Singh, 45, resident of village Koriya. They had gone for fishing on December 17 but did not return," the ASP said.

Police had registered a missing person case on December 22.

Villagers got enraged after the bodies were found floating in the pond today and pelted stones, he said.

Rajgarh police post in-charge R N Mishra was injured in the stone-pelting.

Relatives of the deceased suspected that some persons who fished in the pond were responsible for the deaths.

In view of the tension, additional police force from Sardarpur and Dhar was sent to the village.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Birendra Kumar Singh said Mishra had been "removed from the field duty" as he did not take immediate action on the missing person complaint.

Police also registered a case against unidentified persons for attacking the policemen.
