A 26-year-old youth sustained critical burns while his fiance escaped with five percent injuries when the car they were travelling in caught fire at Nelson Mandela Road in South Delhi here this afternoon.
According to the police, they received a PCR call about the incident at around 11.50 am. The youth, identified as Girish, alias Sonu, was at the wheel while his fiance Kiran was sitting next to him in their Zen car. The duo were going to Sarojini Nagar Marlket for shopping.
Girish and Kiran were supposed to get married in March.

When their car was near Ambience Mall, it caught fire. Passersby managed to bring the girl out of the car while Girish was stuck in it and precious time was lost by the time he could be rescued, said a police official.
The two were taken to Safdarjung Hospital where the condition of Girish is said to be critical as he sustained 95 per cent burn injuries while Kiran sustained five per cent burns.
Two fire tenders rushed to the spot and it took them around half an hour to douse the flames. The cause of the fire is said to be short circuit in the car's wiring.
Girish is a resident of Brijwasan village while Kiran lives in Nangal Devat area.
