	The World Day for International Justice is celebrated to commemorate the historic adoption of the Rome Statute and establishment of the new system of international criminal justice in the year 1998.</div>

	The establishment of International Criminal Court (ICC) is viewed as a historic moment  for peace and the rule of law. It is the first permanent and independent international judicial institution capable of trying individuals accused of serious violations of international humanitarian and human rights. The ICC does not replace national courts, but it is available when a country can&#39;t or won&#39;t carry out investigations or prosecute perpetrators.</div>

	Over 139 countries have signed the Court&#39;s treaty. Nearly 80 states, representative of every region of the world, have ratified it.</div>

It calls on all countries to join the fight against impunity, so that perpetrators of crimes are punished, and to help prevent future occurrences.
