	Bappi Lahiri or Alokesh Lahiri was an Indian musician, composer, politician, and record producer. He became famous for popularising the use of synthesised disco music in Indian cinema. He died on February 15, 2022.</div>

	Bappi Lahiri was born in 1952 in West Bengal&#39;s Kolkata, then Calcutta, into a family with a tradition in classical music. He was the son of Aparesh Lahiri, a famous Bengali singer, and Bansari Lahiri, who also was a musician and a singer. He was related to famous Indian singer Kishor Kumar, who was Lahiri&#39;s maternal uncle. Lahiri was initially trained by his trained and he had started playing the tabla at the age of 3.</div>

	Apart from his music, Lahiri was also known for his style that consisted of wearing gold chains, golden embellishments, sunglasses.</div>

	He died on February 15, 2022 in Mumbai at the age of 69 due to a lung infection caused by obstructive sleep apnea. He was married to Chitrani and is survived by two children, Rema and Bappa Lahiri.</div>

	<strong>Bappi Lahiri&#39;s career</strong></div>

	Lahiri started his career in music with the Bengali film Daadu in 1972, where Lata Mangeshkar sang his composition. The first Bollywood movie for which he composed music was Nanha Shikari in 1973. His first Hindi composition was Tu Hi Mera Chanda which was sung by Mukesh.</div>

	He gained prominence with Tahir Husain&#39;s film Zakhmee in 1975, for which Lahiri composed music and also was a playback singer. Lahiri further gained prominence from his subsequent films such as Chalte Chalte and Surakshaa.</div>

	He had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in January 2014 and contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Srerampur that year but lost the seat to TMC&#39;s Kalyan Banerjee.</div>

	In 2018, he won Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award at the 63rd Filmfare Awards.</div>
