Wayanad
Nestled among the mountains of the Western Ghats, Wayanad (lies between 11 degrees 27 minutes to 15 degrees 58 minutes north latitude and 75 degrees 47 minutes to 70 degrees 27 minutes east longitude) is known as the green paradise. It is located at a distance of about 76 kms from the seashore of Kozhikode and lies at a height of 700 to 2100 meters above the sea level, in the north-eastern part of Kerala state.
Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala. It was formed in 2008 following the delimitation law. The Wayanad seat comprises seven Assembly segments including Mananthavady, Sulthan Bathery, Kalpetta, Thiruvambady, Eranad, Nilambur and Wandoor. The Indian National Congress (INC), and the Communist Party of India (CPI) are the main parties in the constituency.

Demographic Profile
Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 7 per cent and an estimated Scheduled Tribe population of 9 per cent, according to the latest relevant Delimitation Commission report. The estimated literacy level of the district(s) in which this constituency falls in is 91 per cent, according to the Census of India, 2011.
In the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, there were a total of 1,462,423 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2024 Lok Sabha election, of which 721,054 were male, 741,354 female and 15 of the third gender. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, there were a total of 1,359,679 registered voters, of which 721,054 were male, 684,871 female and 1 of the third gender. In 2014 elections, there were a total of 1,249,420 registered voters in this constituency, of which 614,822 were male, 634,598 female and 0 of the third gender. In the 2009 polls, the number of total electors was 1,102,097 which included 543,764 males, and 558,333 females.
Political history
In the first two terms after its formation, Congress represented the seat in the Lok Sabha. M I Shanvas, the first MP of Wayanad, died in November 2018. He had won the seat twice. In 2014, he brought Congress party a second term victory in the constituency by defeating CPI candidate Sathyan Mokeri by a margin of 20,870 votes.In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi of INC won the Wayanad constituency, securing 706,367. CPI’s P P Suneer secured 274,597 votes.
According to data released by the Election Commission of India, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the estimated voter turnout in Wayanad constituency was 73.57 per cent. In 2019, this seat registered a turnout of 80 per cent, while it was 73 per cent in 2014 and 75 per cent in 2009. The estimated turnout in 2024 was -6.76 per cent compared to the 2019 turnout.
