Who is Aman Sehrawat?

Aman Sehrawat is an Indian freestyle wrestler competing in the 57 kg category. At 21, he became the youngest Indian to win an individual Olympic medal by earning a bronze at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.
 
Sehrawat rose to fame in 2019 with a gold medal at the Asian Cadet Championships. Two years later, he claimed his first National Championships title. In 2022, he made history as the first Indian to win gold at the U-23 World Championships and also secured a bronze at the Asian Games. His success continued with a gold medal at the 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships and another at the 2024 Zagreb Open.

In 2024, Sehrawat competed in the World Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in Istanbul, securing an Olympic spot for India. The Wrestling Federation of India selected him over Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya, making him the only Indian male wrestler to qualify for the Paris Games.
 
Born on July 16, 2003, Sehrawat lost both of his parents when he was just 11 years old. His mother, who had been battling mental health issues, died by suicide, and a few months later, his father, a former tractor mechanic turned farmer, also passed away.
 
Following the death of their parents, Sehrawat and his younger sister Puja were taken in by their uncle, Sudhir Sehrawat. According to media reports, Sehrawat struggled with depression after his mother's death and even contemplated turning to drugs. However, things began to improve when he started training at the Chhatrasal Stadium.

Sehrawat, who is the under-23 World Champion, started training at Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi when he was 10 years old. A year later his parents died and the stadium became his second home.
