Who is Ashwini Vaishnaw?

Ashwini Vaishnaw is an Indian politician and BJP leader. He is a Union Minister in the Narendra Modi cabinet and holds the portfolios of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology. He is a former bureaucrat.
 
Early life and education
 
Vaishnaw was born on July 18, 1970, in Rajasthan.
 
He is a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from 1994-batch Odisha-cadre.
 
Ashwini Vaishnaw is a Member of the Rajya Sabha from Odisha since June 2019 and has served as a collector in Cuttack and Balasore districts of the state.

Career
 
Ashwini Vaishnaw graduated from MBM Engineering College (JNVU) Jodhpur in 1991 and received a gold medal in an electronic and communications engineering course. He cracked IAS in 1994 with an all-India rank of 27. He went to the US in 2008 for an MBA from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
 
Bureaucrat-turned politician Ashwini Vaishnaw holds a bachelor's degree and gold medal in electronics and communications engineering from Jai Narain Vyas University and a master's degree in industrial management and engineering from IIT Kanpur.
 
The 1994-batch IAS officer is known for his involvement in the Public-Private Policy (PPP) framework in infrastructure development.
 
Vaishnaw joined GE Transportation as Managing Director after coming back to India. Later, he was appointed as the Vice President - Locomotives & Head Urban Infrastructure Strategy at Siemens.
 
Vaishnaw left the corporate sector in 2012 and established automotive components manufacturing units -- Vee Gee Auto Components Pvt Ltd and Three Tee Auto Logistics Pvt Ltd in Gujarat.
 
Ashwini Vaishnaw ventured into politics when he worked in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's administration after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) lost the election in 2004.
 
Two years later, he became the deputy chairman of Mormugao Port Trust. He took charge of the Railway Ministry on July 8, 2021.
