Who is Champai Soren?

Champai Soren is an Indian politician and member of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and represents the Seraikella assembly constituency as MLA. Champai Soren became the 7th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on February 2, 2024, after former CM  Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for a land scam money laundering case. 
 
Before becoming the Chief Minister, he was serving as the Cabinet Minister of Transport, Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Caste and Backward class welfare in the cabinet of the 2nd Hemant Soren ministry.

Champai Sored received his early education from a government school and studied till the 10th grade.
 
Champai Soren: Political Career
The 67-year-old, Champai Soren, played a significant role in the struggle to create the Jharkhand state in the 1990s. After that, his party workers and supporters started calling him "Jharkhand Tiger."
 
He began his political career in early 1990 while working with Shibu Soren, the chief of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and father of Hemant Soren. His political career took off when he won a byelection in 1991 as an independent candidate from Saraikela Seat.
 
Champai Soren is a five-time MLA from Seraikella seat from 1995 to 2000 (11th Bihar Assembly), 2005 to 2009 (2nd Jharkhand Assembly), 2009 to 2014 (3rd Jharkhand Assembly), 2014 to 2019 (4th Jharkhand Assembly), 2019 to 2024 (5th Jharkhand Assembly).
 
During his 3rd tenure (2009 to 2014), he also served as cabinet minister- Science and Technology, Labour and Housing ministry from 11 September 2010 to 18 January 2013. Later, in the Food and Civil Supplies, Transport ministry from 13 July 2013 to 28 December 2014.
 
He also served as Cabinet Minister - Transport, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Caste & Backward Class welfare ministry from 2019 to 2024 tenure.
 
Now, he is the 7th Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
