Who is Kiren Rijiju?

Kiren Rijiju is an Indian politician from Arunachal Pradesh, affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has held various significant positions in the Indian government, including the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Minister of Law and Justice and Minister of Earth Sciences and Food Processing Industries. Rijiju has been a key figure in promoting development and addressing regional issues in the North-Eastern states of India.
 
He won the Arunachal West Lok Sabha seat for the third consecutive time making it his fourth win overall in the general elections. He defeated Congress candidate Nabam Tuki with a margin of 1,00,738 votes.
 
Rijiju has Rs 65.5 lakh worth movable assets, according to his 2024 Lok Sabha election affidavit.
 
Education
Kiren Rijiju completed his early education in Arunachal Pradesh. He went on to pursue higher education in Delhi, earning a Bachelor's degree from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. Rijiju furthered his studies by obtaining a degree in Law from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. His educational background in law and public administration has played a key role in shaping his political career.

Political Journey
Kiren Rijiju's political journey began in the early 2000s when he became actively involved with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In 2004, he was elected to the 14th Lok Sabha, representing the Arunachal West constituency. During his first term, Rijiju was a member of various parliamentary committees and actively participated in debates, particularly on issues affecting the North-East region.
 
Although he lost the 2009 general election, Rijiju remained a significant political figure and continued to work for the development of Arunachal Pradesh. In the 2014 general elections, he was re-elected to the 16th Lok Sabha, marking his return to national politics. Following his re-election, he was appointed as the Minister of State for Home Affairs in PM Modi's government. In this role, Rijiju focused on internal security, disaster management, and strengthening the law and order situation.
 
In May 2019, Kiren Rijiju was appointed as the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports. His tenure saw efforts to promote sports infrastructure, talent identification, and support for athletes. Rijiju also played a significant role in launching initiatives to encourage youth participation in sports and physical activities.
 
In July 2021, Rijiju was appointed as the Minister of Law and Justice. During his tenure, he worked on several important legal reforms and initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency and accessibility of the judicial system. Rijiju's legal acumen and experience were instrumental in addressing various legal and constitutional matters.
 
Throughout his political career, Rijiju has consistently worked towards improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare facilities in Arunachal Pradesh and other North-Eastern states.
