Controversies

  • Ujjain Simhastha land usage
When the Ujjain Master Plan 2035 development project began in July this year, 185 acres of land out of a total of 872 acres of land reserved for Ujjain Simhastha (Kumbh Mela) was changed from agricultural land to residential land and freed. The 27 acres of land are in the name of Mohan Yadav, his real estate firm, his wife Seema Yadav and his sisters Leela Bai and Kalawati, the BJP councillor of Ujjain Municipal Corporation. Some of the portion of the land is also under the name of his household servants. The land was sought after for real estate due to the construction of a nearby bypass road the remaining freed portion of and is under the name of BJP state minister, Vibhash Upadhyay, his family members and some other builders, who are connected to the party. Mohan Yadav has control over his portion of land through 8 divisions, and his firm has already started developing private colonies on the land.

It is alleged Mohan Yadav has done this under the guise of Master Plan 2035 and grabbed the land which was demanded by the poor families whose houses were situated on the land reserved for the Simhastha.

When journalists asked questions related to the Simhastha administrator, he refused to comment on the project. Congress Councillor Ravi Rai and leader Vivek Yadav have complained that there were houses of poor people situated on the land which was reserved for Simhastha, which should have been freed, but instead, a separate land was freed for the minister, his relatives and others. It is expected that Simhastha will see 10 to 13 crore attendees, for which more land is required.
