Who is Ravichandran Ashwin?

Ravichandran Ashwin, also known as R Ashwin, is an all-rounder Indian cricketer who was born on September 17, 1986, in Tamil Nadu. He is a right-hand batsman, a right-arm off-break bowler and one of the fastest Indian spin bowlers.
 
Ashwin attended Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan and a cricket academy at St Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School helped him develop his bowling skills. He completed his graduation in BTech from SSN College of Engineering.
 
His father Ravichandran played club level cricket as a fast bowler and worked at Southern Railways. The cricketer married his childhood friend Narayanan Prithi and has two daughters.
 
Ravichandran Ashwin's career
 
R Ashwin began playing cricket as an opening batsman at the junior-level (U-17) category. In December 2006, he was a specialist fast bowler for the Tamil Nadu cricket team and South Zone, but due to his pelvic injury, he turned into a spin bowler.
 
His career took a turn in 2009 when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) chose him against Mumbai Indians during the finals. After CSK was banned for two consecutive seasons, he was taken by Rising Pune Supergiant.
 
During IPL 2018 player auction, the Indian off-spinner was selected by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for Rs 7.6 crore. Later, he was named the captain of the KXIP franchise.
 
Ashwin made his ODI debut on June 5, 2010, against Sri Lanka and a week later, his T20I debut against Zimbabwe. His test debut was against West Indies in November 2011. He became the first Indian cricketer to take 50 T20I wickets in 2016.
 
He is the highest-ranked Test bowler for India on the ICC Player Rankings and the highest-ranked spinner in Test cricket. He has won nine Man of the Series awards in Test cricket, the highest by an Indian cricketer.
 
R Ashwin was the 48th cricketer to have been conferred with the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2014.
