Crompton Greaves (CG), an Avantha Group company, has bagged a 3-year contract from the French distribution network operator Electricite Reseau Distribution France (ERDF), which manages 95 percent of the electricity distribution network in France, to provide maintenance and repair services to 4,500 high power transformers. These transformers of ERDF, a subsidiary of EDF, are credited with supplying energy to 35 million households in France.
This contract follows the earlier order wherein ERDF had chosen CG as one of the core manufacturers and suppliers of the first lot of three million Linky smart meters to ERDF as part of its grid modernisation initiative.
As part of the new contract, CG will provide preventive and corrective maintenance of the ERDF on- load tap changers (OLTC) through speedy turnaround services. In larger power transformers, for proper voltage regulation, on-load tap changers are required. Tap changers continuously adjust the transformer load to the power demand and ensure uninterrupted and secure electric supply, making them a crucial piece of equipment. An OLTC allows changes in voltage ratio without de-energising the transformer.
In fulfilling this new contract, Crompton Greaves will be supported by its service team of high-voltage specialists in Fecamp and Avignon (France) and Belgium, and its repair workshops in Avignon and Charleroi (Belgium). These personnel are part of the CG Service Division which caters to utilities, renewable players and industries throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa through a bouquet of solutions to maintain, repair and refurbish high-voltage installations.
