The new Kindle Oasis (Rs 21,999 for the 8GB Wi-Fi version) looks different. The aluminium back feels premium and is smooth and cold to touch but could be slippery in wet hands. Also, the charging cover of the previous iteration is gone.

The 7-inch screen is crisp and easy on the eyes. The Oasis now has a screen with adaptable brightness while I also liked the Night Life feature, since I read in bed. I must say the Oasis was comfortable to read for long hours.

I’ve recently started reading Satyajit Ray’s Bengali novels on the Kindle and I put the Oasis to good use reading the adventures of his iconic sleuth Feluda. It was a chore reading the hardbound compilation of his works as a kid, since it was so heavy; on the light Oasis, it was a breeze. And best of all, you can finally read the Kindle by the beach or the poolside without fear, since its waterproof.

I love the new Kindle Oasis but if I needed to get the 3G version (my Paperwhite’s on 3G), I’d have to shell out even more. But if you can shell out the extra cash, this Kindle’s the best for a bibliophile.
