Bharat Matrimony Group, which runs an online marriage portal, plans to complement its business with a physical presence to tap the potential market for match-making that exists offline. |
Murugavel Janakiraman, CEO of BharatMatrimony.com, said that the group plans to have 300 physical centres in two years to complement its existing business. The investment in each centre would be between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 7 lakh. |
The group's aim is to tap the potential in offline match making market. Janakiraman estimated it to be in the range of $ 250 million (about Rs 1,100 crore). In contrast, the size of the entire online business here last fiscal was $ 10 million, he added. |
Bharat Matrimony group understands its core business well, he said. The existing expertise would be used to serve clients, especially those in the older generation who feel more comfortable with a physical environment. |
Janakiraman felt that the group is in a good position because there is "no serious marriage bureau in India." The group has 75,000 profiles and has captured 60 per cent of the online business in match making, he claimed. He declined to reveal the size of the portals business. |
The offline business is to start with the set up of five centres in a month. The first five centres would be owned by the group. The subsequent expansion would be driven by franchisees, said Janakiraman. |
