Bhel to host Olympics for special kids

Special children from 24 states will be participating in the National Games (Special Olympics) for mentally challenged children.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (Bhel), Ramachandrapuram, Hyderabad, will be hosting two sports events from the National Games "� bocce and roller-skating "� from October 20-23, 2005. Bhel is a Rs 10,336-crore company with an order book position of Rs 32,000 crore.

Bhel's Ladies Welfare Centre, that works for the cause of women and mentally and physically challenged children, with the guidance of Special Olympics Bharat, has taken up the responsibility of conducting these events.

Addressing the media, C P Singh, executive director, Bhel, Ramachandrapuram, said, "We are expecting 1,500 participants for the events. An eye camp will also be organised at the Bhel Community Centre during the period, wherein athletes will be screened and given free spectacles, if necessary."

Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, K R Suresh Reddy, will inaugurate the events and Raj Thakur, chairman of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh, will be the guest of honour. The finals of the National Olympics will be held in Delhi.
