I have two doubts I would like to have cleared. One " while starting a car, the clutch should be pressed? I have heard that this puts less stress on the battery. Is that true?

Secondly, if the car's battery is weak, does this in turn affect its overall fuel efficiency and outright acceleration?

In most cars, the clutch has nothing to do with start-up if your car is in neutral " the battery cranks the starter motor which in turn meshes with the engine flywheel via a set of geared wheels.

While a weak battery will only perhaps give you related problems when electrical draw is high " you might feel that the headlamps are weak, or using the horn make the lights go dim, or worse, the battery might not crank up the engine after a while.

The battery has no bearing on the fuel efficiency and pick-up of a car " you can drive a car without a battery (if you can push-start it) and find there is absolutely no difference in performance. That's because the ignition sequence is magneto-driven.

It is however essential to see that the high tension (HT) coil, the HT wires, the distributor and spark plugs are in good condition to ensure consistent, overall engine performance.
