Here are two paperbacks, both reprints, from Tata McGraw Hill. The Fieldbook by Robert Slater was originally published in 2000, while Work-Out appeared in 2002. That an Indian edition can hit the stands now is testimony to the endurance of the GE wave.
What is a fieldbook? The genre, if it can be called that, was made prominent by Peter Senge, following through on his brilliant Fifth Discipline with a set of instruments, exercises and concepts that could help operationalise his concept of the learning organisation. The book was designed for easy access of its sections, complete with icons.
The GE Way Fieldbook follows the pattern. It is a companion volume to Jack Welch and The GE Way. It uses attractive icons to depict exercises, action steps, concepts and tools. The comparisons might just about end there. Senge
