Okay, so your TV is the one thing that you can’t do without. And you abhor road trips not for dearth of clean loos but because you can’t keep up with who’s married whom in your favourite soap opera on the telly. Well, now you have nothing to worry about, especially if you have one of the new “dishtv on wheels” units fixed in your car. Marketed by DSK Digital Technologies, this system — currently the only one of its kind in the country — enables you to watch direct-to-home entertainment while on the move in the cool confines of your vehicle.
The arrangement consists of a weather-proof dish unit that is mounted on magnetic plates on to the roof of your car. This dish is available in two variants — a 70-channel system that weighs 8 kilos and a 100-channel unit that weighs 25 kg. The dish unit is connected to an antenna controller and a set-top box that are both located under the co-driver's seat. The system is ultimately linked to the LCD screen, which is however not part of the standard package.
The system comes with a 80 GB hard disk which is accessible through a USB cable. So if the news is depressing or if the channels have nothing other than old reruns, you can watch movies, view photographs, play games or listen to songs that have been stored on the hard disk. The dishtv on wheels is available in a number of variations, starting at Rs 79,000. This particular package includes the dish unit and the set-top box. Everything else — the headsets, screens, etc — will cost you more.
