At the Geneva Motor Show, Chevrolet has recently showcased their all-new vehicle in an all-new category. The Captiva is a five- or seven-seater SUV which will go on sale in the UK this September... and maybe later in India too.

The Captiva will come with front-wheel drive or an electronically controlled all-wheel drive option. The entry level LS spec petrol is powered by a 2400cc four-cylinder petrol with 141 bhp and 22.4 kgm and comes only with front-wheel drive.

The LT models get AWD, plus a new 2000cc four-cylinder turbodiesel co-developed by GM Powertrain and VM Motori of Italy. The first in a family of new diesel engines, this 16-valve motor offers 149 bhp at 4000 rpm and 31.5 kgm of torque at 2000 rpm. Five-speed manual and automatic transmission with Tiptronic will also be available.

The good-looking Optiva's seating system will allow for flexible configurations, which GM has perfected with the Zafira MPV. Does it look likely for an Indian debut? Cross your fingers.

SX4 rallying!

Looks like Suzuki is pretty chuffed for having won in the JWRC Drivers' Championship with their Ignis Super 1600 in 2004, in its third year of participation. Because they have now unveiled ambitious rally plans. Suzuki will enter the World Rally Championship from August 2007 onwards.

And their machine will be the SX4 WRC "" based on the recently launched SX4 crossover vehicle. The SX4 has been developed by Suzuki along with Fiat (branded the Sedici by the Italians, for more information pick up the March issue of Business Standard Motoring).

The stunning SX4 WRC prototype is equipped with a new 2000cc turbocharged petrol engine that develops a staggering 320 bhp at 4000-5000 rpm and 65 kgm of torque at 3000 revs. The newly engineered all-wheel drive system included mechanical differentials at both ends and an electronic differential at the centre.

Power goes to all the wheels via a 5-speed sequential gearbox. We do like the machine, and wish Suzuki all the best against current WRC champs Citroen.
