Madikeri in Coorg was once a quiet little town in the hills, but, like most of its ilk, it was 'discovered'. Now it's top of the list of honeymoon destinations, but that doesn't mean you should stay away.

On the contrary, it's an ideal spot for a quick getaway and the drive there is great " undulating, green and relaxing. Trekking through the hills and coffee and pepper plantations is an adventure in itself. If you want to take it easy, well, that's no problem either.

Get in your car and see the Madikeri Fort, Raja's Seat (fabulous views from here), Abbi Falls and the mosque-like Omkareshwara Temple. Venture a little further afield to Talacauvery, where the Cauvery river has its source " it's worth the effort.

Madikeri is 240 km from Bangalore via Srirangapatna and Hunsur. It's a very involving drive all the way through. Coorg International (Ph: 08272-228071, Rs 1,100 onwards) and Capitol Village (Ph: 08272-225929, Rs 750 onwards) are good places to stay.
