Backed by the passage of Sports Broadcasting Signals Bill by Parliament, the government today said Doordashan will telecast live all World Cup matches involving India."Doordashan will show live all matches and AIR will provide live commentary," Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priyaranjan Dasmunsi said here.Parliament had last week approved a bill making it mandatory for private broadcasters to share live feed of national sports events with Doordarshan and All India Radio on free to air basis.The Bill replaced the Ordinance issued by the government in February after the Nimbus Communications, which holds rights of telecasting all international cricket matches in India till 2010, had declined to share telecast signals with Prasar Bharati.Doordarshan will kick off its live World Cup coverage with tomorrow's West Indies vs Pakistan match, besides showing 15 other matches, including all the encounters featuring India.Both the semifinals on April 24 and April 25 and the Final at Barbados on April 28 will also be aired live, the release said.One hour highlights of the above matches will be telecast next day from 0800 hrs.
