The one-stop way to improve your car's grip levels, handling and looks

Q: I have a query regarding my lovely Palio. It has come to that point in time when the tyres need to be changed. While the original spec tyres are of the size 165/80 R13, I intend to fit my car with bigger, 185/70 R13 rubber. Is it a workable idea or will it affect the mileage? Please confirm.

A: There shouldn't be too many problems with the upgrade you want - go ahead with the same rims too, though a wider 5.5J rim might be the best bet with the 185/70 R13 " most tyres of this size will uncomplainingly (and safely) fit on rim sizes anywhere from 4.5J to 6J, so you can't go wrong here.

The best bet is this " get yourself a quartet of Michelin Energy XM1 70 series tyres of the size you've mentioned and fit on a set of Aura alloys " you won't feel the fuel economy pinching as hard as a set of tubed alternatives, while at the same time benefiting from increased grip, better handling and a lighter, more 'talkative' steering.
