A flea market is hardly the place to find exquisite, designer things. But then again, Flea Nite at Olive Beach is not your typical flea market. Started almost four years ago as a funky platform for cutting-edge designers and artists from various genres, the event has grown into a night of indulgence with food and wine, lively music and loads of shopping.

There are many interesting labels on display. On da Rocks!, a designer jewellery and accessories brand with an eclectic mix of classic yet contemporary designs, interspersed with an element of craziness to them; Quirko, as the name suggests, is all about quirky stuff for the home such as wacky lamps, zany cushion covers, bar stuff, coasters, glasses, a diverse mix of crazy odds and ends that are bound to bring a smile; Chilly Billy has a range of women’s wear and accessories, created by designers from all over the country; Chumbak, literally magnets, is all about Indian eccentricities celebrated in the form of fridge magnets, key chains, mouse pads, pens, mugs and even boxer shorts.

Adding a bit of the typical element to the flea market is Psybaba’s beads, bohemian kurtas and psychedelic designs, crafted with biodegradable materials like camel bone and hemp. Then there’s Soda, offering personalised and vibrant furnishings in a riot of colours. The range includes cushion covers, coasters, lamps, clocks and such like.

Each of the brands will be housed in little stalls, created imaginatively with eye-catching displays in the restaurant’s pebbled courtyard.

Flea Nite is on at Olive Beach (16, Wood Street, Ashoknagar, Bangalore; Tel: 080 4112 8400) on August 20, 2010 from 6 pm to 11.30 pm.
