A few days ago, there was this rumour that Tiger Woods had withdrawn from the Deutsche Bank SAP Open in Germany, an event he has won three times in last five years. |
When the news reached Tiger, he was amused. The reason being that he had never entered the tournament for his 2004 schedule. |
The Deutsche Bank in fact now sponsors an event in Boston which benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation. |
This year Tiger will, as usual, be playing only five weeks outside the US. There is an ongoing WGC Accenture Matchplay in Spain. |
Next week, he will play at the Dubai Classic followed by the Dunlop Phoenix in Japan. Besides these three events, he will participate in the British Open and the WGC Amex Championships in Ireland. |

MONTY'S RANKINGS |
Colin Montgomerie, who still has no Majors and is now languishing in the 50s in world rankings, was once within hand-shaking distance of being No. 1 in the official world golf rankings. |
That was way back in 1997. Currently at No. 57, the lowest in the last 10 years, Monty was No. 2 in 1997 after winning the Irish Open. |
Montgomerie may well have moved to No. 1 if he had won at Loch Lomond and if Greg Norman, then No. 1, had missed the cut on the PGA Tour. Norman did not miss the cut and Monty did not win Loch Lomond. |
Soon after that, Tiger Woods entered the scene, and save for David Duval briefly taking that spot in 1999, Woods has been the undisputed king of rankings, and much else. |

WINNING STREAK |
Recently, when Vijay Singh was still riding his streak of 12 top 10s and approaching Jack Nicklaus's modern-day record of 14 consecutive top-10 finishes, the "Golden Bear" said he was not even aware of the streak he had once achieved. |
Nicklaus said he was totally focused on winning and that top 10 finishes hardly crossed his mind. |
Well, whether or not Norman was aware of it then, now he knows that he still has it since Vijay missed the cut at the Buick Invitational and that snapped his streak. |
