The Andhra Pradesh government, in association with the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), is organising Gitex India-2006, the fifth edition of the annual ICT mega event, from tomorrow at the Hitex International Exhibition Centre. Chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy will inaugurate the event. |
The three-day event is expected to bring together leading Indian and global IT players on to a single platform according to the organisers. |
According to K Ratna Prabha, secretary, IT&C, Gitex India-2006 aims at creating a networking platform for national and international ICT companies, which are in quest of business opportunities in India. |
She said that this year, in order to give value-addition to the participants and exhibitors, the scope of the event had been enlarged to remove the impression that the Gitex series was limited only to software and hardware companies. |
The event includes a trade fair, computer shopper, student workshop, job fair, and a conference on 'Animation in India'. According to Ratna Prabha, so far 89 ICT companies had booked their space. |
About 44 stalls are being set up in the 'Computer Shopper' as against 20 vendors/dealers during the previous event. |
The new entrants include IBM, HP, Compaq, Intel, Samsung, and Sony besides Toshiba, Acer, DLink, APC, Logitech, TVS, HCL, Tally among others. The government has accorded the benefit of refund of VAT at the rate of 4 per cent to the dealers participating in 'Computer Shopper'. The benefit will be passed on to the customers. |
Business delegations from Poland, Korea, Taiwan, China, Middle East, Europe and Southeast Asia are expected to visit the event. |
Last year, the event registered a growth of 26 per cent (7,938) in trade visitors while general public registrations crossed the 17,250-mark. |
