However, Judge Sheri Bluebond said the motion for a restraining order failed to meet the requirement for emergency relief. She noted that DMA's ongoing case could "give rise to damages (against GM), but maybe not injunctive relief," that would force the cars to be sold through Daewoo's existing dealer base.

In the US, GM plans to bring in Daewoo-built vehicles as Chevrolet and Suzuki models this year, and first shipments of Suzuki-badged Daewoos left a Korean port early last month.

Rebadged Daewoos due to be sold in America are the Chevrolet Aveo, Suzuki Forenza (also sold in India as the Chevrolet Optra) and the Suzuki Verona.

These are, respectively, updated variants of the Daewoo Lanos, Nubira and Magnus. The lawsuit claims that Daewoo Motor America has sole rights to distribute Daewoo-built cars in the US. Attorney Dan Myers is representing Daewoo and its dealerships in this lawsuit.

 Over the top

The very desirable 911 Turbo has gone topless again. Porsche will now be offering the Turbo in Cabriolet form after all of 14 years. Based on the existing 911 Turbo Coupe bodyshell, the Cabrio has been suitably strengthened to compensate for the lack of a fixed roof structure.

The bodyshell employs, in places, DP600, which is a certain type of extra-strong lightweight steel.

The Turbo Cabrio is the first open-top 911 to use this material, and structural rigidity should certainly not be an issue. Which is a blessing, because what with the 3600 CC six-cylinder Turbo's frenzied 420 horsepower, this is one car that needs to be rigid.

The Turbo cabrio is slated to do the 0 to 100 kph run in 4.3 seconds, and go on to a top speed of 300 kph.

Full-time 4WD keeps things well in control, regardless of road and weather conditions, and the sophisticated Porsche Stability Management (PSM) takes control of the car's engine and braking systems if it thinks the driver is messing up.Four-wheel ventilated discs are standard, and Porsche's ceramic composite brakes are also on the options list.

The car will not be cheap
