Tourism Malaysia, in its effort to attract more tourists, is now promoting Indian weddings in Malaysia. Owing to this venture, which started last year, Tourism Malaysia already has two Indian weddings to its credit and two more in the pipeline.

Speaking to Business Standard in Ludhiana Tourism Malaysia Marketing Manager Bhupesh Kumar said Indian wedding industry was now worth Rs 50,000 crore and that of Punjab itself was around Rs 500 crore.

"Everyone in this world wants that his marriage should be the best and different from weddings of other people. That is why people are finding altogether new ways of getting married. Tourism Malaysia has decided to provide everything that is required for a wedding and that also at a cost that is almost same as that of a marriage in India. In India, an average marriage costs between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 5 crore and sometimes even more than that. Even in Malaysia, the wedding costs the same but Tourism Malaysia will offer many added attractions. We will also give them an option of theme-based weddings like couples tying the knot in a peach island, a rain forest, a private beach and many more options to choose from. Even elephants welcoming all the marriage guests can be arranged.''

Kumar said to promote Indian weddings in Malaysia, they have already tied up with eight leading wedding planners of the country.

He said, "We have already had two Indian weddings there - one each from Maharashtra and another from south of India. Two more, both from Punjab, are already in pipeline. Wedding of the Maharashtrian family, which catered to around 350 guests, was performed in two different ways i.e. Malayali and Maharashtrian. We provided them with all the attires and arrangements. The second marriage, attended by over 100 guests, was a typical south Indian wedding."

Further adding, Bhupesh said Tourism Malaysia also offered a special package for all the wedding guests coming for wedding.

"One does not have to carry anything for a marriage from home and all arrangements will be made by the wedding planners. This includes the bride and bridegroom's attires, if desired."
