The only time one can get a truly wild experience in India is on the streets of Delhi. Crazed motorists, animals and jaywalkers all combine to give one the feeling that it's a jungle out there. |
But to be able to really experience the jungle, and the wildlife, there used to be only limited options. |
Things are all set to change. With the likes of CC Africa coming into India, with Taj Hotels, the quality of the wildlife experience is hopefully going to get better. The Taj"CC Africa combine has already launched two wildlife lodges at Bandhavgarh and Pench National Parks in Madhya Pradesh. |
Included in the $725 per night deal is an enthralling safari experience. These two lodges are no flash in the pan. The Taj is planning to create a tiger circuit in Madhya Pradesh. |
That isn't all that is on offer at these two national parks. Other options that are tempting are the Tiger Den Jungle Resort at Bandhavgarh which offers 18 luxury cottages and a four-hour jungle safari. You could also check out the Pench Jungle Camp. |
In south India, on the fringes of the Nagarhole National Park, you could check out the Kabini River Lodge. Once the hunting lodge of the erstwhile maharajas of Mysore, the Kabini River Lodge is today rated by the British Tatler's Travel Guide as one of the top five wildlife resorts in the world. Kabini is pure elephant country, and one is sure to see a herd or two at any time. |
If Mysore is too far, go on a safari in Ranthambore and you are likely to see tigers, antelopes, nilgai, chinkaras, wild dogs, crocodiles and more than 272 species of rare birds. The high-end properties you could stay at include the Aman-i-Khas, the Oberoi Vanyavilas (Rs 34,500"38,500). Another property is the Sher Bagh Resort, which was originally built for the use of the maharajas of Jodhpur at the beginning of the 20th century. |
At Jim Corbett National Park, Leisure Hotels has just opened a new tented lodge called the Hideaway River Lodge. Two people can stay here for $375 a night which includes all meals, as well as an elephant and jeep safari and angling. |
Time to go wild, then. |
