Wine chillers and refrigerators are sought after by wine enthusiasts. Gargi Gupta checks out two options.
In a country that is as hot and humid as India, wine chillers and refrigerators are essential to store wine, to make sure that it doesn’t lose colour or flavour. These gadgets, which have become available in India in the last few years, offer the controlled climate — between 12 and 15 degrees centigrade — ideal to store wine.
And that’s not all.
Some of the latest models, such as the Wine Cellar from Chinese electronics brand Haier, even have a vibration-free refrigeration cycle to help the wine mature undisturbed, a separate program selector for red and white wines, and a UV-protected glass doors.
The other brand that’s only recently come to India is Miele, the premium category German white goods maker. Miele claims to use even more sophisticated technology to guarantee a perfect bouquet.
Dubbed ‘wine conditioners’, these have three adjustable temperature zones for different kinds of wine. After all, you can hardly store red wine at the same temperature that you would a white, or champagne.
